WHERE DID THE TIME GO?!?

Sunday began my last week in London! I’m really sad about leaving and yet excited about the future. Yesterday morning I finished my paper for Contemporary Britain and have an exam for that class and Music History today! This is possibly my last entry before I head off on a two week tour of Europe with my family. Tonight I’m watching Mama Mia with my friend Karen, i’m really looking forward to it! Wednesday we have the last play to attend for Theatre class and Thursday we have our project presentations and farewell party. For our farewell party we are going on a Dinner Cruise on the river Thames. It has been such a pleasure to be on this trip with 20 other AMAZING people! Here is a quick rundown of my week:

Tuesday the 18th: I got a front row and center ticket for an amazing Royal Shakespeare Company production of The Crucible! I love that I’ve been able to have amazing theatre at my finger tips; I’m definitely going to miss that.

Wednesday the 19th: For Theatre class we saw Larkin with Women at The Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond. It was hilarious. It was a theatre in the round experience that had the entire class laughing.

Thursday the 20th: Today we had class presentations for fine arts and we discussed visual culture spaces. My group and I did the Chocolate Room in Harrods! Everyone’s presentations were so interesting. It was a great way to finish that portion of our fine arts course. Afterwards our Professor took us out for a drink and we just chatted away about our experiences in London! Andreen, her friend from Germany, and I went to see Les Miserables. For a production that has been going on for quite a while it was great! The music was amazing and we had a wonderful time. Andreen and I have been waiting to see this musical for the longest time!

Friday the 21st to Saturday the 22nd : My roommate from freshman year Arielle came to visit me from the Nancy Program. She brought the whole program with her!!! Ok, so there are just two people in the program, her and Elizabeth. It was nice to hear their stories about Nancy, Paris, and just France in general. I showed them around London and we got to watch the guards near Buckingham Palace practice for some review. It was quite entertaining. While they were here I also tried my first Kebab, went to Abbey Road, and went to Regents Park. It was nice to show them places I was quite familiar with and places I’ve never been to!

On Friday night we saw a production of One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Next starring Christian Slater. Arielle and Elizabeth enjoyed it and that made me happy but I thought it wasn’t good at all. After seeing so much good theatre the production just seemed mediocre and the actors didn’t really take this great story anywhere.

Saturday night we just enjoyed each others’ company and had a good time!

Sunday the 22nd : My Day of Work! On Sunday I began my essay and attended Pub Theatre with Andreen and Rebecca as an assignment for Theatre. We were told to take a theatre risk and I chose to see something that was out of the norm for me. It ended up being so much fun. Despite the technical difficulties, I felt that the actors did a great job portraying different people waiting for things to happen. The play was entitled Something Better Then Nothing at a tiny theatre in the Oxford Arms in Camden Town.

Monday the 24th: I’ve been applying for numerous summer internships while here and have had no luck until now! I applied for a Public Relations Internship with LaunchSquad in San Francisco and made my follow up call today. Out of 200 applicants, I’m one of 10 they are considering. I’m really excited!

After finishing my essay and studying for my exams, Andreen and I decided to watch Footloose the musical. We just wanted to watch something fun and it was definitely that and more. Yes it was kind of ridiculous at times but the dancing was great and the music reminded me of home. Andreen and I just wanted to get up and dance. There were strobe lights, loud music, and funny characters! There were parts that were just like whoa that was risqué and other parts that felt really cheesy and made you feel warm inside hahaha. I’m going to miss going to theatre with Andreen and getting really good seats!

If this ends up being my last entry I would just like to thank you for joining me on this great journey. Seniors, good luck in making a decision about which College or University to go to. Just remember to go to a place where you feel comfortable and are able to grow in a meaningful way. Wherever you go, you’ll learn a lot about yourself!

With thanks,

Melissa Danielle Saulog
