Real Life, by Matt Poole Wednesday, May 2, 2007Have a Great Summer! Well everyone, this will be my last blog for this year. It’s kind of incredible how quickly this year went by, but it definitely had its impacts on me while it was speeding by.
On Saturday night we held our annual Senior Dinner in the Theatre department, where the Junior throw a big party to show their appreciation for the graduating seniors, and to send them off well. It was a blast, too. There was incredible food, amazing entertainment by faculty and students, and of course the amazing people in the Theatre department. It was a little sad however, because I will definitely miss all of the incredible seniors who are graduating. I don’t even want to think about how I will be graduating next Spring.
Today is my day off between finals, so I have a chance to prepare for my last two tomorrow. The two I’ve already taken weren’t too horrible, one simply consisted of turning in a paper for Visual Anthropology, and the other was an in-class essay analyzing a few of the plays we’ve read in my American Theatre class. The tough one is coming up tomorrow morning when I take my Statistics exam. That really is the only class I truly worry about, and it has been all year. I would sure hate to have to retake a math class my senior year. Then I will end finals by giving a final performance with my Acting III class in the campus gardens of our Shakespeare sonnets, monologues, and scenes, and our Commedia dell’Arte performance.
After tomorrow, I will be free from schoolwork for four months! My friend Liz and I found an apartment in Portland for the summer, as we’ll both be working and living here. A large number of my friends are staying in Portland this summer, so it will be nice not to have to say goodbye to everyone this year.
At the end of May I’ll be taking a trip to Hawaii to visit a friend, which I am so excited for! Other than that, my summer plans are up in the air. But that’s how I like it. I’ll probably take last-minute road trips and have adventures here and there.
Man, looking back at this year, I sure have gone through a lot. I’ve been in four shows in the theatre, I’ve taken over 10 classes, guided probably over 50 tours, and sang hundreds of songs. I feel like I’ve earned a break.
Well, I suppose this is farewell. Thank you all so much for reading my blog, and it was a pleasure writing it! And thanks for all of the emails you sent me asking questions and making comments. I’m hoping to meet a lot of you when you start attending L&C next Fall! Thanks again, and have a great summer!
