Real Life, by Maddy Abulencia Friday, April 20, 2007Nearly there!!!
The semester (and the more notably the academic year) is nearly over, which is kind of hard to believe. Looking back it seems like everything’s a blur because the year just sped by. I have mixed feelings about this time of the year because you’re at this stressful crossroad where you’re wrapping things up with term projects, papers, finals while trying to prepare for next year with the housing lottery and registration. It doesn’t help that I was sick all of last week and had to miss a couple days of classes.
On Monday night, ISLC helped put on a farewell celebration for L&C’s graduating international students and TCKs. It was a bittersweet event because you’re there to congratulate the seniors yet you’re also there to, in a way, say goodbye to them. On Tuesday night I went downtown for Bill Clinton’s lecture at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. He’s a very engaging speaker and it was a fantastic experience seeing him speak, unfortunately, I was a little bit disappointed because the topic was global interdependence yet he spent a lot of time talking about the US (and its health care system…).
Well, I’m registered for my Fall courses—I’m in Economic Development, Radical Political Economy, East Asian Art History: China, and Calculus 1. And I’ve got my housing figured out so I’ll be living in the Apartments next year with a fantastic group of people. I also have most of my summer plans figured out--I’ll be interning with a local NGO; scuba-diving; and hopefully meeting up with friends from High School and L&C—but I still need to buy my plane tickets…
