Wow, so much has happened since I last posted a blog. The last few weeks have been intense, crazy, and wonderful at the same time.
On April 19th, a family I know from Washington came down to visit me. Rachel (10) and Maya (8) had fun juggling and unicycling with the L&C Juggling Club. Rachel said that she wants to come to Lewis & Clark when she goes to college because the cafeteria was awesome and my dorm room was really cool!
The week of April 21st was the craziest week ever. The Juggling Club performed at the First Annual Talent Show on Wednesday, I had opening night of a Theater performance on Thursday, I sang with Barackapella at Barack the Vote and with Cappella Nova at the choir concert on Friday, and I performed in the Theater performance again on Saturday night. It was a fun week, but please remind me never to get involved with that many performance activities ever again. I was completely exhausted by Sunday, which was the day I had to finish a presentation for Monday…
Don’t worry- you probably won’t get this involved in college, and that’s a really good thing!!
My grandparents visited from Indiana Thursday through Saturday of that week. Then they went up to Seattle for a while and came back to see my a cappella concert this Thursday. It was so good to have them here!
This Wednesday was the last day of classes for me, since I don’t have class on Tuesdays or Thursdays. It was AMAZING because I got out of class early twice, ate pizza in choir, and went to my Combinatorics professor’s house for dessert. My professor, John Krussel, made our class a chocolate cheesecake, and it was absolutely incredible. We stayed at his house for almost three hours playing the piano, singing, and just hanging out. It’s really fun to go to professors’ houses because then you can see what they do outside of school! I’ve now been to four of my professor’s houses.
The end of the semester was hectic for me because of my performances. I didn’t have too much extra work except for one presentation that ended up going really well. This time of the year isn’t usually too bad for me because I’m a math major. I don’t have three papers due at the end of the semester- I just have the regular amount of problem sets. My roommate, on the other hand, DID have three papers due on Thursday, which was the last day of classes. She survived, thank goodness, and now she’s able to relax a bit more during the reading days before finals.
On Thursday, the last day of classes, we had our end-of-the-year a cappella concert. Four groups performed: Section Line Drive, The Merry Weathers, Small Group, and Momo & the Coop. Section Line and Momo are both co-ed groups of about 16 members. Small Group is a 5-person group I created this semester, and The Merry Weathers are a 10-person all-female group that was created last semester. I can’t even begin to say how impressed I am with the a cappella culture at this school. We filled the mainstage in Fir Acres Theater, and some fans sat on the floor during the whole two hour concert. When we sang our last song, the audience wanted more! A cappella has grown so much here in the past few years. The first group started in 2005, and now only three years later we have four groups and a huge following. I really believe that we’ve started something that will continue for years to come.

So, today is a reading day, and I’m going to juggle and hang out with friends. Reading days are the two days before finals to study, but I’ve been studying math the whole semester. If I don’t know it by now, I never will! Right now I need a couple days to sleep in.
I hope you’re all having fun on your college search. Please email me at lbrown@lclark.edu if you have any questions!!
Goodnight!
Lauren
