One Year of My Life.

My group in Sociology went on a field trip to an abandoned school.
Pink buds are falling on the pavement. Car tires pick them up.
A tall bike.
Me, wearing black nail polish for the senior theatre dinner.
I wasn't the only one wearing makeup.

Wow. A lot has happened since you and I talked. There is so much to say. I hope that I’ll remember it all.

First, however, I have to tell you some bad news. This will be the last blog of the year! It seems like such a short time and such a long time at the same time. It seems like a million years ago that I first came to Portland, but it seems like I’ve only been blogging for a couple weeks.

So, last Thursday and Friday nights were the senior thesis projects–short plays directed by senior theatre majors. There were three plays in the little theatre, one movie on the main stage, and one play that was performed outside. My a cappella friends Matt and Maya are senior theatre majors, so I went mostly to support them; however, I was also really impressed with a rendition of “Waiting for Godot.” The one that was performed outside was also amazing: it was about a post-apocalyptic world, and it was performed in the old cobblestone carriage circle. They used torches to light up the stage, and the actors entered the play from different places, and continued to blur the lines between the performance and the outside world during the show. The show began and ended with some amazing fire-dancers. Many of my friends acted in the senior plays, so I also went in part to cheer them on.

Also on last Friday was another event put on by the L&C student for Barack Obama, and our Barackapella a cappella group sang. Oregon congressman Earl Blumenauer, a graduate of L&C, spoke about the election and Mr. Obama, and then we sang our (made popular by YouTube) Yes We Can song. I got my Oregon ballot in the mail yesterday.

Last Sunday, the Wind Symphony had its final concert of the year, and my grandma, aunt, and cousin came down to see me play bass trombone. We played in the chapel, and Dave (the conductor) took us out for pizza afterwards.

This Thursday, Momo & The Coop (my a cappella group) had its last concert of the year with fellow a cappella group Section Line Drive and the all-new group The Meriwethers. It was pretty much the best concert I have ever been a part of with that group, and it was the by far the most fun. We sang a whole bunch of new songs, and ended with our a cappella version of “The Predatory Wasp of The Palisades is Out to Get Us” by Sufjan Stevens.

Last night I went to the Senior Theatre Majors Dinner, which was a themed dinner party in the Theatre building honoring the senior theatre majors. We all dressed up in vaudevillian costumes, some of which are one display in the pictures to your right.

Well folks, I’ve turned in my final 13-page research paper, and now I have a couple of finals ahead of me. The year is at an end: the days are getting warmer. I hope you have enjoyed reading my blogs.

I have a new website, that I may start blogging on soon, so if you’d like to keep up with me, here’s the link. I probably won’t blog about what I did that week on this new blog, but rather each new post will be a different topic–things I’ve been thinking about, things I’m interested in, etc.

Its nice to think that this year of my life will remain written down, in my own words, on the Internet, forever.

Farewell.

Love,

Jonah
