Real Life, by Alyssa Perkins Wednesday, April 30, 2008Our classroom turned into a zoo
My whiteboard has a strange drawing on it: it looks like descending stairs. I decided that, to push myself through this last bit of school, I was going to visualize my last tasks. Each stair represents a set of things to do, in the order of when they are due. There are four steps. I finished the first one this morning.
The first step was to do my sex toys presentation and to finish my last short story for fiction writing. I did my sex toys presentation this morning. I made a PowerPoint project to go with it, although it wasn't required, because I couldn't resist using flashy photos. I think I did well, because the class chuckled and asked a couple questions. I'm happy it's over now, though.
I finished my final short story on Monday. As we were chatting before class, one of my classmates mentioned that she still had 125 flex points she needed to spend before the semester ended. Apparently she was pretty desperate, because she offered to buy coffee at the Dovecote for everyone in the class! So we trekked over to the Dovecote, ordered coffees, and held class on the grass. It was nice.
In Feminist Theory that day, our classroom turned into a zoo. Mackenzie brought in her dog, and another girl brought in her cat. It was not planned that way, but it happened. The cat kept trying to sniff the dog, but the dog wasn't having it. Nonetheless, we had animals to pet, which is always good.
Last night, my Fiction Writing class had its reading, usually called the "Senior Fiction Reading," except that some of us are juniors. It was held in the Manor House, and luckily, there was coffee. Laughter was had by all, especially when Chris read his story, with the part about Mateo wanting eggs to make flan. It was a riot. I also wasn't very nervous, so that was refreshing.
And the lit review came out! It has a drawing on the front that is supposed to resemble tarot card, and it looks really slick.
There is still a lot more to do. Tonight, I will be showing my Feminist Theory class a rough cut of Mackenzie's and my sex ed video. Tonight, I will be writing a 1,200+ word paper for Lit of the English Renaissance. Over the weekend, I need to finish shooting for the video and study for my Renaissance final. Then I'll work vigorously on my sex toys paper, which is due next Wednesday, and my fiction portfolio, which is due on Thursday.
I haven't quite realized that summer is so close yet. It also hasn't hit me yet that I will not be sleeping for the next week.
